Separate the causes
Present before fastening
Inspect attachment tension and backing position; record how much the coating is compressed around the stitches.
Only when closed
Compare closure alignment and fit. The load may be concentrated at one button rather than shared across the front.
Appears after pressing
Check whether the button or backing was pressed against the shell on an unsuitable support.
Steps before deciding
- Retain a before-press attachment sample.
- Record button, backing and thread specifications.
- Compare open, fastened and worn appearance.
- Trial attachment tension on identical layered scraps.
- Approve holding security and surface appearance together.
Worked example
Hypothetical case: a button area is flat when open but dimples only during fitting. Investigate closure load before loosening every attachment.
Buyer questions
Should I use a backing button?
Trial the design; backing can distribute load but also changes thickness.
Can a softer finish fix it?
It cannot reliably correct excessive attachment or closure restraint.
