Separate the causes
Insufficient turn allowance
Compare the thickness of the approved coating with the sampling fabric. The same flat pattern may behave differently through a thicker edge.
Unequal restraint
Check whether reinforcement covers the facing but not the corresponding shell edge, or vice versa.
Lining pulls the facing
Open a sacrificial trial connection to see whether lining attachment is pulling the edge toward the outside.
Steps before deciding
- Photograph the naturally hanging edge before correction.
- Compare seam-line lengths and thickness at the finished edge.
- Record reinforcement coverage and stitching sequence.
- Trial edge positioning on representative layered offcuts.
- Check the corrected edge after closure and the intended care process.
Worked example
Hypothetical trial: the edge sits correctly before the lining is attached and turns out afterward. Investigate lining attachment length before changing the coating specification.
Buyer questions
Is understitching always sufficient?
Not necessarily. It cannot compensate for every geometry or component-length mismatch.
Should the facing use the same coating?
Follow the garment design and trial evidence; substitution changes edge behavior.
