Measure consecutive stitch intervals and compare thick crossing zones with open panel zones.
Edge distance wanders
Inspect the edge guide and finished edge shape; a straight stitch path can still look uneven beside a wavy edge.
Nap hides some stitches
Compare nap direction under fixed lighting before treating partly concealed stitches as missing stitches.
Steps before deciding
- Retain a marked stitch line with its panel location.
- Measure both interval and edge distance separately.
- Record presser foot, guide and layer crossings.
- Trial guide or feeding changes independently.
- Agree appearance limits using the accepted topstitched assembly.
