Separate the causes
Initial length mismatch
Place the tape beside the marked seam line without stretching either component.
Sewing stretch
Measure reference intervals before and after attachment. Compare a trial sewn without manually pulling the shell.
Post-treatment mismatch
Run the intended care process on the complete zipper assembly, not only on loose coating.
Steps before deciding
- Identify zipper model, tape material and shell lot.
- Measure attachment lengths rather than overall zipper catalogue length.
- Record stitch construction, seam allowance and reinforcement coverage.
- Trial feeding and component alignment one change at a time.
- Approve closure travel and hanging appearance after treatment.
Worked example
Hypothetical trial: a 60 cm shell seam becomes 61 cm during attachment while the tape stays 60 cm. Start with sewing stretch rather than ordering a longer zipper.
Buyer questions
Can a heavier tape prevent waves?
It may introduce new stiffness. Trial the proposed tape with the actual shell.
Can I hide it by steaming?
Temporary flattening is not evidence of stable correction.

Reference and limits
The reference supports Fred Textile’s manufacturing identity, not a diagnosis of your garment. The checks and hypothetical examples below are editorial investigation plans. Confirm materials, safe trial conditions and acceptance criteria with the garment maker before altering production.
