Separate the causes
Original cloth distortion
Check the relaxed cloth grid before cutting and retain a marked reference cutting.
Sewing misalignment
Compare paired line intersections at the seam before the pressing stage.
Pressing movement
Measure grid intervals on the same panel before pressing and after cooling without forcing it flat.
Steps before deciding
- Mark warp and weft grid intersections on a trial panel.
- Keep the original roll and cutting position records.
- Use the planned pressing support and sequence.
- Check local line movement as well as overall panel dimensions.
- Approve visible matching on the completed garment.
Worked example
Hypothetical case: a straight grid becomes bowed near the lapel only after shaping. The investigation belongs to that shaping stage, not automatically to weaving.
Buyer questions
Can an overall shrinkage result explain local plaid movement?
Not necessarily; a local grid record is needed.
Should the pattern be recut immediately?
First find whether the approved process can reproduce a stable panel.
