Separate the causes
Fold outline
If the ridge follows the entire hem allowance, compare allowance depth and layered thickness.
Local intersection
If only the side-seam crossing stands proud, examine the crossing layers separately from the whole hem.
Pressing impression
Compare an unpressed assembly and a cooled pressed assembly without rubbing or steaming away the evidence.
Steps before deciding
- Record the ridge position relative to the folded allowance.
- Use actual sleeve layers, including lining and reinforcement.
- Compare alternative allowance treatments approved by the garment maker.
- Trial pressing support without an unsupported heat increase.
- Approve the sleeve under the agreed viewing conditions after care.
Worked example
Hypothetical example: a raised line occurs only at the underarm seam crossing. Reducing approved crossing bulk is a narrower trial than shortening every sleeve hem allowance.
Buyer questions
Is the ridge always permanent?
No. The response varies; establish whether it remains after cooling and the intended care trial.
Can I shave the surface?
That may change nap and appearance. Obtain an approved correction method first.
